Houston Space Center

Houston Space Center

This is the place; where NASA controls its manned space missions. This place is an active facility, and home to so much history.

What you must do is take the tour. You can visit the historic Mission Control Center and the new, operating one.

Then there’s the Astronaut Gallery, which boasts the world’s greatest collection of space suits.

Also, two flown manned spacecraft—one Mercury and one Apollo. Both, however, are displayed in the dark, with only internal lighting. (This bad idea was reportedly created by the Disney Imagineers; possibly a suitable idea for a theme park, but a bad one for a museum.)

You can find the space center at 1601 NASA Parkway (formerly NASA Rd. 1), Houston, TX 77058, approximately 25 miles south of downtown Houston in the NASA/Clear Lake area. Operating Hours are 10am – 5pm weekdays. 10am – 6pm weekends. Extended hours throughout the summer and some holidays.

For hours on a specific day call 281-244-2100.
